About Us

   Dr. Sherry Mee Bell earned her PhD at the University of Tennessee. She is a Professor and Department Head of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education, College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, at the University of Tennessee with 30 years’ experience in education and assessment of exceptional students of all ages, particularly those with learning disabilities. An experienced special educator and psychologist, she also has background in elementary education and library information science. Her scholarship interests include assessment and instruction in reading, especially for children and adults who struggle; education of gifted students; attributional style, second language acquisition for students with exceptionalities and teacher education. Dr. Bell has presented numerous international/national presentations and is author of numerous scholarly articles in such journals as Journal of Learning Disabilities, Assessment for Effective Intervention, Psychology in the Schools, Adult Basic Education and Literacy Journal, and Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy. She served as guest co-editor for the Fall, 2007 issue of International Dyslexia Association’s Perspectives on adult literacy and is co-author of The Handbook of Reading Assessment (2008) and Assessment of Reading Instructional Knowledge-Adults (2012).

   Dr. R. Steve McCallum earned his Ph. D at the University of Georgia. An experienced school psychologist, he is a Professor and Head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, at the University of Tennessee. Recognized for his scholarship as a Fellow in the American Psychological Association, Dr. McCallum is author or co-author of numerous scholarly works, including peer-reviewed articles in journals such as School Psychology Review, Psychology in the Schools, and Assessment for Effective Intervention. Dr. McCallum is founding co-editor of Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment and co-author of tests such as the Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test (UNIT), Universal Multiple Abilities Scales (UMAS), Assessment of Reading Instructional Knowledge-Adults (ARIK-A) and books, including the Handbook of Reading Assessment, Essentials of Nonverbal Assessment, and Handbook of Nonverbal Assessment. His primary areas of interest are psychoeducational assessment, nonverbal assessment, and scale development.
